Cruise 1 - Serenity (Nov 2009)
Lisbon to Miami

The
Stormy Atlantic

We had 20 foot waves for the first three days at sea

Fighting the rough seas, we were not able to make the Azores

Christopher Columbus must have been a lucky guy. I think these waves could have crushed the Santa Maria

Hitting a big Wave
Some waves splashed all the way up to our balcony (8th deck, midship)

After 3 days the ocean calmed a little

Ocean waves are caused by the wind!

Each day got clearer and calmer

Soon there was no pitching and rolling

One day there were no waves

Time at sea, 8 days

Every night there was a beautiful sunset

So many different colors

Pink clouds, reminds me of Arizona

The Milwaukee Depth" is 30,240 feet deep, the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean

Cruising Prince Christian Sound, off the southeast tip of Greenland

Greenland produces so many icebergs that navigation is tricky even during the summer

Rescuing a Sail Boat | Serenity (Nov 2009)

The calm Atlantic has stranded a sail boat with 6 sailors on their way to Nassau

With no wind for their sails, they were running out of fuel

The Serenity comes to the rescue

Rocking on the ocean swells, the captain of the small craft feared his mast would be damaged if it hit our ship

The Serenity launches a rescue craft

The rescue boat heads out with fuel and food for the sailors

Handing off the supplies

Hope they made it to Nassau
